The third “Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation Conference (GEIC)”, scheduled to take place at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Israel on May 16, 2016, will be the first to take place outside of China, and is a joint collaboration between BGU and Jilin University in China. The main theme of this year’s conference will be “Entrepreneurship and Innovation, China-Israel – Challenges and Opportunities”.
The conference will create a platform for strengthening academic connections, and will provide opportunities for meetings between industry professionals, academic researchers, senior executives, entrepreneurs and investors from the Jilin province and their Israeli peers.
Leading the conference are the Bengis Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management at BGU, and the China-Israel Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Jilin University.
Hosting leading figures such as Nobel Prize Laureate Prof. Dan Schechtman and Mr. Avi Hasson, the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Economy, the conference will encourage the exchange of new ideas and trends in innovation, and will explore opportunities for international partnership and cooperation. During the conference, a number of breakout sessions will take place, allowing participants to gain in-depth understanding and providing an opportunity for them to make connections according to their field of interest – be it academic or business-oriented. In addition, throughout the conference participants will be able to visit the exhibition hall, where booths set up by Israeli companies involved in innovation will be featured, and also where they can view research posters presented by BGU students and graduates.
Part I – Plenary Session:
The session will include addresses by university (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Jilin University) and government officials from both China and Israel, followed by a keynotes by Prof. Dan Schechtman, Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, Mr. Avi Hasson, the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Changzhi Chen and National Chairman of the China Democratic National Construction Association.
Part II – Academic and Business Breakout Sessions:
There will be a number of parallel breakout sessions taking place:
* Two academic sessions featuring presentations of research papers on the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship by researchers from China, Israel and other countries.
First Session: Chairperson – Prof. Raphael Bar-El
Second Session: Chairperson – TBD
* Three business sessions, featuring innovative business models relating to specific topics of interest to both the Chinese and Israeli participants. Each session will start with a short description of the topic – the characteristic of the field in Israel and the expectations of the Chinese delegation from the visit, followed by a panel and open discussion with session participants.
Business Breakout session topics:
1. Innovation in Health Services, led by: Mr. Ziv Ofek, founder and CEO of CDI; from Jilin – TBD
2. China-Israel Collaboration, Past Experience and Future Potential, led by Nir Dagan Co-Founder, Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer, SkyFund; from Jilin – TBD
3. Cleantech and Agrotech, led by Mr. Avi Feldman, CEO, Capital Nature Chairman, IATI Cleantech Committee; from Jilin – TBD
The exhibit area will include a display of research posters presented by faculty researchers and graduate and doctorate students from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, alongside booths of Israeli companies, entrepreneurs and public authorities (such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israel Export Institute, Manufacturers Association of Israel and more) presenting Israeli innovation relating to the various areas discussed during the conference.
The conference will end with a festive dinner at a nearby location off campus.
The Chinese Delegation
The Chinese delegation will include approximately 100 participants. Among them are leading academics from Jilin University and other Chinese universities, government officials from the Jilin province and leading entrepreneurs and business people. Jilin University, ranked among the top ten universities in China, is located in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin province. Jilin province is located in northeastern China, bordering upon Russia and North Korea.
The delegation will be spending a week in Israel, beginning with the one-day conference at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. During the days following the conference, members of the Chinese delegation will spend time visiting various sites and attending business meetings. The group will be divided according to fields of interest. For the most part, the visits and meetings will be coordinated prior to their arrival; however, time will be allotted for meetings scheduled at the time of the conference.
The morning following the conference will be devoted to the various companies at the Gav-Yam Advanced Technology Park (ATP).
